Since a youth growing up in Jamaica Nigel has been fascinated with soccer. He started playing at a young age in Jamaica at Kingston College and Glenmuir High School. In 2009, Nigel received a scholarship to play soccer and study at Lon Morris College. In 2011 he transferred to University of Houston Victoria where he continued to play and study. While in college he was given the opportunity to work with young players eager to learn and develop at the sport through the YMCA and VYSO.

After college he was granted the opportunity to work with and develop higher level players through ATX Knights and now FC Westlake.
